I miss the flexi
I miss the flxi-disc. The thin plastic sheet-like records that came free with magazines like 'Sounds' or on a cereal box.
I think the first flexi disc I had was from Winchel's donuts, and the last one was to promote women's basketball on ESPN (the WNBA's a faux funk outfit) in between were scores of indie bands, New Order, Echo and the Bunnymen, R.E.M. The flexi always sounded bad, and often required a penny or two on the stylus. But there was a sense that whatever you got from a flexi was a bonus, and therefore worth it.
True the free cd is better, it holds more, it sounds better, no pennies are required etc, but I miss the flexi.
Better isn't always better, I still like to monkey with the shortwave radio, even though the internet is superior in nearly every measurable way.
Why must I cling to that which has so clearly passed.
